Behind The Bench…

People ask me all the time, “What’s the best part about being married to an athlete?” People have so many expectations as to what my answer will be and are actually surprised by what I do say. Yes, I do love the diamonds, mansions, shopping sprees and private parties with other celebs…I mean, the “Lifestyle” is a fun one but the truth is that the best part about being a basketball wife (for real) is being able to give my kids more opportunities and a top notch education. As well as being able to help those less fortunate.

Many of you never get to see that side of us. You see what’s sensationalized on tv and get the wrong impression or you get the impression that our “Lifestyle” is completely one-dimensional.

I along with dozens of other wives, moms, and fiancees make up Behind The Bench. It’s the first and only national player-wives organization and was created by Deborah A. Williams, Ph.D (yes, Ph.D!!) and is currently run by the beautiful Sandra Evans Short. Behind the Bench’s agenda addresses the challenges that face our families, especially women and children. Together, we raise money and devote time to charities on a local and national level.

We do a lot but my favorite attribute about this group of successful women is that there is absolutely no shade. We are all very supportive and encouraging about each other’s endeavors and families. In a nutshell…it’s all love 😉

Here’s a pic of me, Andrea Butler (husband, Caron Butler) and Lesley West (husband, All-Star David West) raising money in New Orleans with the rest of our organization. Funtimes!
